 How do I make my counter digits different?

Answer

Adding a new counter digit can be a bit complex, but we will run through the process step-by-step.

FIRST STEP

1. Find a counter you like (Digitmania is a great place to find counters!).

2. Download the picture that is displaying all the digits (not the separate digits! the one with them ALL together in one picture). The trick lies in not actually downloading the individual counters but the file they are using to display all the digits in a row (1234567890).

3. Rename this file to 'strip.gif'. When you have completed that part, then proceed.

SECOND STEP

1. FTP to your server.

2. Go to the '/usr/local/etc/Counter/digits/' directory.

3. Create a new directory (MKDIR) named.. whatever you want (preferably the next consecutive letter of the alphabet of the directories displayed, there should be a A,B,C,D,E directory already in there, so create the directory as F).

4. Go into your newly created directory (ie. F) so you should now be in '/usr/local/etc/Counter/digits/F/'

5. Upload the renamed digits graphic (strip.gif) to this directory (be sure you are uploading it as in BINARY format!).

6. Now, on the page where you want the new digits displayed change the "dd=" code to "dd=F" (or whatever you named the new digit directory) so it should look like:

<img src="/cgi-bin/Count.cgi?ft=5|dd=F|frgb=255;255;255;&df=login_name.dat">

7. Your counters should now be coming up with your new digits!

8. If you are still having problems, please contact Customer Service.
